Horse

King of Stones

The prehistoric horse, common in Europe until about 10,000 BC was depicted frequently in paleolithic cave art.

The Uffington white horse chalk figure once held a long barrow in its mouth, representing the breath of life and pro-tection of the dead. The 30,000-year-old carving of an unshod hoof is thought to represent both the vulva (the beginning of new life) and the primal footprint that shows the trackway through the forest.

Choosing this card signifies a positive change in one's life. A horse is a psychopomp - an animal that carries one between the worlds, bringing new life, the joy of the reborn sun. Perhaps there has been a fallowness, or an unhappiness in your life that will now begin to thaw.

A person who is reliable, wise, practical, able to help others with problems; both serious and playful, magical and grounded. They have their feet on the ground and their head in the stars.

Salmon

Knight of Cups

Salmon are sacred in most shamanic systems for many reasons, but their ability to swim upstream to their birthplace and spawn is one of the most remarkable. This journey leaves the salmon exhausted and most die in the attempt. Representing, therefore, self-sacrifice and wisdom, salmon were said to swim in pools overhung by hazel trees and to eat the nuts falling off in autumn.

This card denotes someone whose life serves a greater purpose, someone with perseverance, determination, self-sacrificing and wise. Could have a tendency to martyrdom - to give away too much of one self.

Awakening of the subconscious senses related to the desire to resolve decisions. The gateway stands open before the whole person prepared to take positive action.

A reawakening. Time to move from introspection into practical reality. Striking out on one's own.

In the darkness of failure the burning torch of hope remains lit in the human soul and encourages struggle. Courage is needed to survive the storm.

A feeling of being alone, struggling in many aspects of one's life. A need for support, to open one's heart to the potential 'hearthfire' and for others to reach out and help.

The Shaman

Now you may hear the beat of a drum or the song of the wind. It may be the dancing of light on water or the midnight barking of the fox, but whatever awakens your desire to return to the wild, The Shaman within you is ready for initiation into the mysteries.

It may manifest itself in the form of a desire to study an esoteric science or philosophy and apply what you learn to the world. It may involve travel or even a personal sojourn for the sake of gaining confidence and experience. But however the desire to begin a new spiritual chapter emerges, you are now in an emotional and intellectual position to bring forth real change in your life for the benefit of everyone.

This process of focusing, mediating and applying wisdom and knowledge from the Otherworld to bring physical effects to everyday reality is the work of The Shaman.

Being a shaman, able to see the complexities of life and death, and acting on this knowledge for the benefit of all, can be a heavy burden to carry. (Responsibility, ten of wands).

This is a time to be bold and commit to the hunting of new life and a better relationship with the world as well as the fulfillment of wholesome ambition. Take a moment to gather your tools and steady your state of mind.

Take careful stock of what you want to achieve, why and how you will go about it. Then harness your potential by filling your quiver with all the talents, knowledge and cunning you possess and string the 'bow of burning gold' with the 'arrows of desire'.

Take a deep breath and be calm. It is time to let your soul take flight.
